JANINE REEVES – ARTIST
Janine grew up in London and studied Fine Art at the Art Academy in London, under the guidance of Robin Lee-Hall PRP, graduating in 2013. She has been awarded five scholarships to study watercolour in Rome under Carole Robb formerly of the New York Studio School, and spent this summer painting with eminent artist Andy Pankhurst.

This is what Janine says about her Apollo & Daphne work:
Apollo and Daphne is a work inspired by the ethereal beauty of Bernini's sculpture "Apollo and Daphne" in the Borghese Museum.
I have used watercolour paints to recreate the luminosity of the marble sculpture, as Daphne is caught by Apollo and begs with her father to save her: She begins her transformation into a laurel tree.
The delicate leaves of the sculpture I have chosen to represent with triangles as a geometric form, the blue represents her sorrow and rejection of Apollo whilst the yellow/gold represents her transformation into a new life as a tree.
Colour is an important part of my work, and this piece is one of my personal favourites because it represents beauty, grace and the magic of choice in our life.
Daphne chose to escape by becoming a tree rather than submit to the ardour of Apollo.
